Michael Jackson Partners With Icon Productions For Directorial Debut
Michael Jackson is venturing into directing for the first time, teaming with writer-director Bryan Michael Stoller on a big-screen adaptation of Jennings Michael Burch's book 'They Cage the Animals at Night' for Icon Productions.
Writer-director Byran Michael Stoller was recently quoted in an interview about one of his first meetings with Jackson:
"Michael said he wanted to direct, that he liked my style and that we would complement each other as co-directors. He was the one who brought this book to me. It deals with orphans, and Michael always felt that he grew up as an orphan because, in a way, he missed out on his childhood. The boy in the book had a tough time, and Michael related a lot to that. Michael and I have similar sensibilities. We're both big kids, and we feel that when it comes to their emotions, we'd be able to draw that out for the big screen."
In a statement, Michael Jackson states,
"I feel we have a wonderful team, and this is perfect marriage with Icon, and I'm looking forward to all of us working together."
The project continues Michael Jackson's interest in the feature film world. In February, Jackson's Neverland Entertainment invested US$15 million-$20 million in Mark Damon's production and distribution company MDP Worldwide, making Jackson and his new producing partner Raju Patel major shareholders in the company. The deal with Icon is said to be separate from the MDP Worldwide deal.

Tonos.com and AOL Music have just started a songwriting contest for AOL members to write the lyrics to "I Have This Dream," one of the unreleased tracks from the INVINCIBLE sessions, written and composed by Michael Jackson, David Foster and Carole Bayer Sager. The contest winner will have her or his words sung by Michael Jackson when the song is released.
In a statement, Tonos.com stated: "Music serves as a salve for what ails the human spirit and a remedy to the soul during troubled times. Now, these three musical icons have created an inspiring musical landscape entitled 'I Have This Dream,' and they're asking AOL members to come up with an optimistic and uplifting lyric to complete this anthemic song."
All proceeds from this project will be donated to children's relief organizations around the world.
One AOL member's lyric will be chosen as the winner and Michael Jackson has agreed to record the song and release it on a forthcoming record. The winning AOL member will attend the recording session.

22/04/2002 INVINCIBLE: THE PROMOTION IS OVER
|
JOINT NEWS REPORT FROM: PLANET JACKSON, ANGEL AND MJ NEWS INTERNATIONAL
Today We Call Out To All Fans Of Michael Jackson
In March 2002, the promotion of the INVINCIBLE album was discontinued by Sony Music, after only six months of release.
Today, the three largest Michael Jackson Fan Clubs in the world launch the most important project of our existence. Today we ask Sony Music to promote the INVINCIBLE album.
Historically, Sony Music have promoted Michael Jackson's music aggressively since 1975, and he has been a global priority for the company. We are asking for a return to this policy.
INVINCIBLE was Michael Jackson's last album of new material for Sony Music.
By late 2002, or early 2003, a Michael Jackson Greatest Hits set is expected to be released by Sony Music. The compilation will contain a few new songs on which Michael is currently working. This Greatest Hits set will be Michael Jackson's last record for Sony Music.
INVINCIBLE is no different to Michael Jackson's previous records. It is a great album with several potential hit singles. Although it sold an incredible five million copies in only three months, sales suddenly stopped as the promotion abruptly ended.
The potential of INVINCIBLE remains unexploited with only two singles released. INVINCIBLE has disappeared from the world's charts and currently shows no signs of returning.
Planet Jackson, Angel and MJ News International today announce a unique joint venture. We are appealing to you if you are a fan of Michael Jackson's music, or even if you have been a fan in the past and still recognise that Michael Jackson deserves to be respected for an astonishing talent.
MJNI, Angel and Planet Jackson wish to stress our belief in the importance of this project. We believe this is a pivotal moment in
Michael Jackson's career and the future of the fan community. We ask sincerely that we forget all usual fan club "rules" and start working together immediately. We would also like to say "RESPECT" to the countless individuals and groups who over the past few weeks have already started campaigns to support Michael and the INVINCIBLE project. We want to work with you and are looking forward to discussions with you to help mobilise the fan community. We've set up a special e-mail address at invincible@mjni.com if you wish to play an ACTIVE role in helping organising events in your area in support of Michael and INVINCIBLE. This e-mail will be accessed by all three of the major fan clubs. We will publicise your fan-club or website if you wish to get involved.
Over the coming days, we will be launching a series of initiatives and revealing more details. We are asking all fans and fan clubs to come together and help us.
